- In my own words:
-
I'm an author, office slug, and more fun than a skinned knee.
I'm a pretty mellow guy. It's hard to ruffle my feathers. Hope feathers don't bother you.
I'm also fairly introverted. I much prefer having a friend or three over to my place rather than going to a larger gathering, even if I know everyone there. It's not to the point of it being an anxiety disorder, but I do find social activities draining and somewhat uncomfortable.
I'm not religious, but am friendly toward non-patriarchal religions. Many of my friends are of pagan persuasion, and I'm quite cool with that, though I don't take it "seriously." I find much wisdom in Buddhism.
I enjoy doing volunteer work. I'm a Big Brother and have been paired with my Little since 2008. I've also been a suicide hotline counselor and have served on the Boards of a couple local associations.
When it comes to relationships, I believe that life's too short, and people too prone to change, to expect "perfection" to be anything but temporary. Thus, I don't ever put any stock in the idea of people being "made for each other," or any of that Hollywood stuff. (Ironically, my DVD collection is heavy with chick flick romantic comedies.)
But here's what I do put stock in... People are inherently beautiful. Sometimes the world has beaten them pretty hard and that beauty has been hidden by a lot of emotional scarring. But it's still there. Everyone wants to be loved for who they are, and frankly, that's not hard to do, once you get past the hurt.
